Do Motherboards have Video RAM limits?

I currently have a Dimension 4600 with only 128mb of Video Card RAM. It's still an AGP x8 and I would like to get 512mb into it. I'm unsure if it could handle that much and I can't find anything from dell support and spec check software that mentions it. Should I even be worrying about it?
