Fasfashion college question, i am in 8th grade, i no nothing?

i am going into 9th grades oon and want to do competiton dance because i love it, but then in 10th and 11th grade i want to take art lessons to get ready for my college portfolio. I want to go to FIDM or the art institutes, those are the only ones near me. what are the best books to help me learn to draw better? how can i prepare, my private school offers nothing except band which i am in, should i switch to public and take a sewing cl? i took quilting and learned alot, i make 2 huge ones, and i am working on shirts, how can i prepare, what do i need to get into a good fashion and design school? what are the best design schools in california?
